This innovative initiative seeks to inspire the next generation through STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). The winning team will be granted an all-expenses-paid trip to live an immersive behind-the-scenes experience at the Formula 1® São Paulo Grand Prix in November 2025.

We are excited to announce the open call for the "Learning Sectors: Acelerando no Circuito da Aprendizagem" challenge, organised by the British Council with the support of Formula 1®.

All secondary school students from public schools in Goiás, including those from ‘Escolas do Futuro’ (‘Schools of the Future’), as well as teachers at these educational institutions and instructors and monitors from START laboratories, are eligible to participate. This is your chance to take part in an innovative initiative designed to encourage the development of new generations of talented students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)

The challenge will take place in three stages, focused on the basic concepts of computational thinking. Teams will compete to develop creative and functional solutions to real issues in their school communities. Online workshops and technical support will be provided at each stage to assist the participants. The winning project will earn a once-in-a-lifetime behind the scenes experience at the São Paulo Grand Prix in 2025, with all expenses paid.

Who can participate

  • Secondary school students regularly enrolled in public schools in the State of Goiás, including ‘Escolas do Futuro’ (‘Schools of the Future’).
  • Teachers working at public secondary schools in Goiás, including ‘Escolas do Futuro’ (‘Schools of the Future’), with an interest in developing and training students in STEM skills.
  • Instructors and START Laboratories monitors managed by the State of Goiás.

Why participate?

  • Coding Challenge: Take part in exciting team challenges and learn how to apply computational thinking in the classroom.
  • Online workshops and mentorship: Learn from expert STEM professionals.
  • Diversity and Inclusion: Be part of an inclusive environment that values diversity and promotes equal opportunities in STEM.
  • Practical Application: The new STEM knowledge acquired during the challenge will empower participants to propose innovative solutions, creatively apply concepts from these disciplines, adopt techniques and technologies that are not commonly explored in the school environment, and implement best practices with a high socio-educational impact, promoting inclusion and equity within the school community.

Role of teachers

  • Teachers, instructors, and trainers will be asked to collaborate on the challenge with the goal of inspiring all participants, regardless of gender, to pursue careers in STEM. The aim is to foster both quality and equity in school education, while reducing the gender barriers that women continue to face in the scientific and technological fields.
  • Teachers will take on leadership roles and will have the option of inviting another teacher, instructor or START Laboratories monitor to join as a co-leader.
  • Teacher and educator leaders will receive certificates, with the workload distributed according to Brazil’s National Common Curriculum Base (BNCC), considering both general and specific competencies.
