Feira Preta 2021

Feira Preta is the largest festival for Black culture and entrepreneurship in Latin America. in recent years, the British Council has been one of its content partners and supporters.

The 2021 edition of Feira Preta followed the theme “Existe um futuro preto e ele não se constrói sozinho”, and the British Council Brazil launched, on its Instagram account, an exclusive filter to commemorate 20 years of Feira Preta and celebrate the festival.

In more than 20 days of programming, Feira Preta brought to the public a myriad of events and activities, from urban interventions in the city of São Paulo to lectures, webinars, concerts, cultural presentations and much more.

Overall, Feira Preta's activities had more than 65 million views, with the participation and work of more than 600 professionals and influencers. You can still watch and relive some of the highlights of Feira Preta held in partnership with the British Council. Follow below.

Preta Talk - Conversando Sobre Música LGBTQIA+

In this Feira Preta activity, rapper, singer, songwriter, actress and activist for the indigenous and LGBTQIA+ cause Katú Mirim talks with UK-based culture producer Chardine Taylor Stone about the fight for LGBTQIA+ rights and its impact on music, with mediation by Jaqueline Fernandes, creator of the Latinidades Festival - the largest black women's festival in Latin America and President of the Afrolatinas Institute.

The Street Mapping Talk featured a conversation between Coletivo Coletores and visual artist Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley, from the UK, to address the encounter between digital art and public space, and its possibilities for the struggle for the rights of LGBTQIA+ communities in Brazil and in the UK.
