Our approach is to internationalise education.  We aim to help improve the quality of education, promote innovation and raise the skills of teachers and education leaders.  We do this through international partnerships and exchanges, policy dialogues, design and delivery of solutions and the provision of consultancy and education intelligence by drawing on UK expertise.

 

Education policy

The British Council has a global reputation for the quality of its policy dialogues, strategic advice and support for national education schemes. We support governments in enhancing the quality of education provision, strengthening research and innovation, ensuring that education meets the needs of industry and commerce, and building long lasting education partnerships with the UK and internationally. Our offer includes:

Developing policy and strategy in education

• Convening the sharing of UK knowledge and skills in partnership with government. 

• Delivering international policy dialogues on vocational and higher education such as Going Global.

Building capacity and capability

We support governments and government agencies in sharing the best of UK and international knowledge to remove academic barriers to mobility progression and learning in education.

• Providing training and support for researchers, headteachers, and education leaders.

• Developing networks and partnerships with the UK and internationally.

• Organising mobility programme for teachers, researchers and students to UK institutions

Quality Control

• Advising and supporting quality assurance and accreditation educational intelligence and research.

• Support for mutual accreditation for awards and qualifications.

• Training for evaluators and assessors, QA and accreditation bodies.

 

Education for employment

We create access to the best of the UK’s employment led vocational education systems to support both the development of a strong skills base and lifelong education and development for employees and managers. We offer:

• assessment and training for academic readiness

• graduate employability skills assessment and development programmes

• UK consortia and partnership support for skills curriculum development

• scoping and evaluation visits to and from the UK

Our work with educational institutions

We help institutions to develop their capabilities, strengthen their international presence, learn from UK and international expertise, and build connections with partners in the UK.

We raise the international profile and status of universities, colleges and schools, help to embed global citizenship and culture into student and children’s experiences, and develop globally valuable citizens of the future.  We do this by building international partnerships, advising on international strategy, strengthening English language competence, and delivering training and support for institutions, academic staff and managers.

Schools

Our work in schools and basic education encompasses policy debates, training and support for teachers and headteachers, direct support for pedagogy in technology supported learning, and the development of long lasting and productive school partnerships with the UK. We offer:

• science, technology and mathematics subject support.

Universities

We support universities in strengthening their international profile, increasing international research, establishing an international culture for their graduates (including English for students, faculty and administration) and providing graduates and postgraduates of global and international standing.
