What teachers teach is not always what students learn, and assessment is useful in that respect. It shows teachers whether the students learned what they taught.’ (Figueres, 2017). From this quote, we can see that teaching, learning and assessment are closely linked. In this workshop, participants will explore different types of assessment and discuss the similarities and differences between teaching and assessment tasks. Participants will consider the nature of feedback and its role in both formative and summative assessment and will investigate the extent to which peer- and self-assessment can contribute to student learning. Practical techniques for implementing effective assessment tasks and providing useful feedback to students will be provided.
